About Hoogeland 1770
Hoogeland 1770 is a Dutch candle house founded in the Age of Enlightenment.
For over two and a half centuries, the house has been crafting candles as sculptural and fragranced objects, at the crossroads of ritual, design and contemporary expression.
Rooted in centuries-old craftsmanship and guided by a distinctly Dutch design sensibility, Hoogeland 1770 creates objects that invite presence, contemplation and time.
True luxury burns slowly.
ORIGINS / 1770 & ENLIGHTENMENT
Founded in 1770 in the south of the Netherlands, Hoogeland 1770 emerged during the Age of Enlightenment, a period defined by progress, reason and the pursuit of knowledge.
Light has always been central to this era, not only as a source of illumination, but as a symbol of awareness and human advancement. From its earliest days, the house has explored the cultural and emotional power of candlelight, continuously reinterpreting it through time.
Today, that legacy lives on, not as tradition preserved for its own sake, but as a foundation for modern creation.
WHAT WE CREATE / MORE THAN CANDLES
At Hoogeland 1770, candles are not conceived as consumable objects.
They are designed as sculptural presences, anchors within a space.
Each piece establishes a quiet ritual, a moment of pause, a slowing of rhythm, a return to presence. Through form, scale and burn time, the candle becomes part of the architecture of a room, shaping atmosphere rather than simply illuminating it.
In an accelerated world, these objects offer a deliberate counterpoint, one that invites stillness, awareness and connection.
CRAFTSMANSHIP AS A PHILOSOPHY
Craftsmanship at Hoogeland 1770 is not a process to be showcased, it is a philosophy.
Every candle is shaped by human hands, guided by time, precision and restraint. The gestures are meticulous, the finishes intentional, the burn carefully calibrated. Nothing is rushed, nothing is left to chance.
This level of attention cannot be scaled, automated or replicated. It is the result of patience, experience and an uncompromising respect for the object itself.
DESIGN, ART & CONTEMPORARY EXPRESSION
Dutch design is embedded in the DNA of Hoogeland 1770, experimental, restrained and forward-looking.
Drawing subtle inspiration from baroque and rococo forms, the house reinterprets historical references through a contemporary lens. The result is a body of work that exists between past and future, tradition and experimentation.
Each candle is conceived as a form, a volume and a presence, an object that resonates as much visually as emotionally.
