250 years of candle-making mastery

Founded in the south of the Netherlands in 1770, Hoogeland 1770 is one of Europe’s oldest candle houses. For over 250 years, we have shaped light through craft, discipline and experimentation.

Each piece involves a multistage handmade process. Moulds are created, layers are coloured and poured, surfaces are finished by gloved hands to preserve their flawless appearance. Bases are precisely drilled when required, ensuring structural balance and perfect alignment with their holders.

This heritage is not nostalgia. It is technical authority.

True luxury burns slowly.

Sustainable by conviction, not by trend

Luxury today must be responsible.

Our candles are crafted with local plant-based wax, entirely palm oil free and animal cruelty free. Several collections integrate dedicated refill systems, extending the life of the object beyond a single burn. Our FSC-certified wooden holders reflect the same long-term thinking.

As a certified B Corp company, we view sustainability as a framework for continuous improvement rather than a marketing claim. Measurement guides our decisions. Longevity defines our design.

To us, sustainability is inseparable from durability.

Choosing the right luxury candle

Selecting a luxury candle depends on scale, intention and context.

For sculptural presence, freestanding designs such as Baruch offer architectural impact. For statement height and ritual symbolism, Immanuel reinterprets the traditional altar candle. For refillable scented experiences, Gabrielle blends fragrance craftsmanship with reusable design. For refined dining rituals, Catharine elevates the classic taper candle.

Each collection reflects the same mastery, expressed through different forms of light.

Whether chosen as a design investment or a meaningful luxury gift, the intention remains the same: to slow down, and to reconnect.
